TIMMINS, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos are entering their upcoming holiday break on a roll as the top team Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League standings added another triumph to their totals by rallying for a 3-2 triumph over the Timmins Rock Sunday at McIntyre Arena.
Action in the first period saw Timmins notch the lone tally of the session with Riley Robitaille beating Powassan starter Julian Galloway at 16:40 to the delight of the 765 fans in attendance.
Moving on to the second stanza, Brett Hahkala struck shorthanded for the Voodoos just past the seven-minute mark to knot the affair at 1-1.
A later power play allowed the Rock to go back on top as Tyler Gilberds scored at 12:38 to make it 2-1 after two periods of play.
An early man advantage chance in the third saw Powassan capitalize with the equalizer 43 seconds in when Shane Beaulieu drew the visitors level once more.
Then heading into the late going, the Voodoos pulled out the win as Dylan D’Agostino notched the game-winner with 3:41 to go as he scored for a fourth consecutive outing to help his squad complete a weekend road swing with three straight victories.
Payton Vescio assisted on the final two tallies for Powassan in the win.
Galloway made 29 saves to record the decision with Eric Jackson seeing 23 shots in defeat for the Rock.
Boasting a league-best 28-3-1-2 record, the Voodoos return to the ice in game action January 6th as they host the West Division-leading Soo Thunderbirds in a 7 p.m. start at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Timmins saw a modest two-game win streak come to a close in the setback as they slipped to 13-20-1-2 overall this season.
Up next for the Rock will be a road encounter January 4th in Cochrane vs. the Crunch at 7 p.m.
