COCHRANE, Ont. – A goal with 21 seconds remaining in regulation credited to Powassan Voodoos defenceman Ben Danielson was the difference in a 3-2 road win over the Cochrane Crunch Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League get together at Tim Horton Events Centre.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Cochrane got the night’s first marker at 3:06 of the second stanza as Ethan Ingram buried a rebound from the right of Powassan netminder Owen Wray off a shot from the right point courtesy of Mark Hill.
Powassan would draw level in the third as Alexander Bradshaw one-timed a shot off a feed from the corner to knot the affair at 1-1.
It was more from Bradshaw a minute and a half later as he came down the left wing, side stepped a Crunch defender, and snapped a quick shot into the corner.
Answering back with a tying tally three minutes later, Jake Alton bagged his fifth of the campaign after he stole the puck in Voodoos territory and banked one in from a sharp angle with 7:54 remaining in regulation.
Then with overtime looming, Powassan picked up the game-winner in the waning moments of the contest to pull out the dramatic victory.
Wray was called upon to make 32 saves in the come from behind triumph for the Voodoos while Cochrane starter Michael Nickolau faced 37 attempts in suffering the narrow setback.
