POWASSAN, Ont. – The front-running Powassan Voodoos continued their winning ways in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Saturday as they skated to win No. 42 on the season with a 5-1 triumph against the French River Rapids at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Tyson Gilmour equalled a career single-season high in tallies as he opened the night’s scoring for Powassan as he potted his 23rd of the campaign at 16:54.
French River countered however to knot the affair at 1-1 before the first period was complete with Alex Paul picking up his 12th with 58 seconds left in the session.
The Voodoos would regain the lead in the middle session thanks to a Brandon MacKinnon effort at 5:14.
Gilmour then set a season-best goal total later in the period as tally No. 24 came via the power play at 12:45.
Aaron Dickson added to the home side’s cushion late in the second as they took a 4-1 cushion into the third.
Powassan’s Quintin Loon-Stewardson then finished off the win in the final minute to round out the scoring.
Nicolas Case and Tomas Yachmenev had two assists each to aid the winners’ cause.
Voodoos’ starter Julian Galloway made 27 stops in picking up the win while Andrew Rocha faced 40 shots in defeat for French River.
