Warmington picks up 5 points in Thunderbirds romp over Beavers

SAULT STE. MARIE – Brandon Warmington had a goal and dished out four assists to help lead the Soo Thunderbirds past the Blind River Beavers 10-1 Sunday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Essar Centre.

It was the visiting Beavers who opened the scoring early in the contest before the T-Birds erupted for their 10 unanswered tallies.

Tyson MacLeod put Blind River on top 3:32 after the opening face-off only to see Gavin Burbach and Anthony Miller respond putting the home side up a goal after one period of play.

The middle stanza saw the Soo strike five times, including four while on the power play, to take full control.

Warmington notched the first one 25 seconds into the stanza before setting up Michael Caruso and Yan Kalashinkov later in the session while Tyler Sehovic and Grant Syrette added later efforts.

Three more markers in the final frame completed the romp with Miller, Burbach adding their second goals of the night and Joseph Miller notching a single.

Shots favoured the Thunderbirds by a 40-21 margin with Steve Dombrowski picking up the win and Joseph Lynch suffering the loss.

With the triumph Dombrowski won his 11th straight decision after starting the 2012-13 campaign 0-2-1.

The victory also saw his club raise their overall record to 29-9-3-3 while Blind River fell to 12-24-2-5.

NOJHL play resumes Wednesday as the Sudbury Nickel Barons play host to the Abitibi Eskimos in a 7:30 p.m. start at McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff.
