Wegleitner’s 3-point night helps lead Gold Miners past Rock

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a pair of tallies, which included the game-winner, and an assist from Gunnar Wegleitner to help lead them to a 4-1 triumph over the Timmins Rock Thursday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at McIntyre Arena.

Weigleitner continued his torrid scoring pace since joining the Gold Miners last month as he notched the lone tally of the period 2:52 after the opening face-off.

Timmins would tie it 51 seconds into the second period when Jordan Rendle reached the 25-goal plateau on the season.

It stayed 1-1 until the latter stages of the session when Wegleitner added his 10th marker in just his sixth game with the Gold Miners at 17:08.

Kirkland Lake came right back and scored again 41 seconds later, via the power play, as Kevin Ford supplied his 28th of 2016-17 with assists going to Marshal Nikitin and Wegleitner.

The Gold Miners would then ice it in the late going of regulation when Alex Storjohann scored into an empty net to round out the night’s scoring

Ridge Gerads made 31 saves to earn the victory for Kirkland Lake while Jeff Veitch faced 34 shots in a losing cause for Timmins.
