Wildcats with 5th straight

ELLIOT LAKE – The Elliot Lake Wildcats got goals from seven different skaters to win their fifth straight game as they defeated the Blind River Beavers 7-1 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at Centennial Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Elliot Lake got off to a quick start in the second grabbing a 2-0 lead on tallies by Matt Pollard and Alec MacKenzie.

Nathan Johnson’s fifth of the campaign put Blind River on the board at 5:42 of the middle session, but the Wildcats pounced for three more before the stanza was complete to take control.

Mick Tourangeau, Adam Baxter and Liam Blais all found the back of the net for the home team making it 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Elliot Lake struck just nine seconds into the final frame to extend their cushion with Spencer MacLean supplying the marker.

A Nate Sepeda power play effort in the latter stages of the contest rounded out the scoring on the night.

MacLean, Jason Wilson and Cole Hepler also added two assists apiece for the winning side.

Shots on goal favoured the Wildcats in a big way, ending 63-13 with Allan Menary picking up the win and Nick Kazmeirczak the loss.
