6-goal 3rd leads Wildcats past Beavers
ELLIOT LAKE – The Elliot Lake Wilcats broke open a tight one-goal game by scoring six unanswered tallies in the third period to defeat the Blind River Beavers 8-1 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Centennial Arena.
Elliot Lake did grab an early 2-0 lead in the opening session on markers by Chris Ordoobadi and Mick Tourangeau.
Blind River got on the board in the stanza thanks to Alex Hulford at 18:06.
The score stayed the same through the second, but the Wildcats would blow it open in the third to win going away.
After Jason Wilson made 3-1 with 13:25 to go they added a pair of quick markers from Cole Hepler and Nathan Campbell to extend their cushion.
Elliot Lake then finished things off with three more tallies in two and a half minutes apart off the sticks of Shane Woolsey, Tanner Bowditch and Adam Baxter.
Baxter also had three assists to cap-off a four-point night for the winning side.
Shots on goal favoured the Wildcats 46-19 with Tristan Hanna picking up the victory and Nick Kazmierczak suffering the loss.
