ELLIOT LAKE – The Elliot Lake Bobcats of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today that three players from their 2012-13 roster have made commitments to NCAA schools for the upcoming season.
A trio of 20-year-olds in forwards Brian Hennessey and Tyler Newsome along with defenceman Jake Suvak have committed to attend NCAA division III schools Oswego State, Becker College and Westfield State respectively.
Hennessey was a force for the Bobcats after joining the club midway through the season finishing with a team-high 1.75 points-per-game amassing 35 points, on 17 goals and 18 assists in just 20 games.
As for Newsome he picked up 11 points in 26 outings while Suvak ended up second in team scoring among blueliners with 13 points.
Oswego plays out of the Ney York State athletic conference, Becker are members of the ECAC-East and Westfield St. is in the Massachusetts State conference.
“The Bobcats are pleased that as a first-year as a program in the NOJHL we’re able to send three guys off to College,” offered Bobcats president, head coach and general manager Ryan Leonard.
“We also had a few other offers for players who will wait and finish their junior careers off first before committing to schools,” added Leonard.
“This news is a testament of the outstanding job Ryan Leonard did in his first season in the NOJHL,” said league commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“Not only did Elliot Lake improve mightily throughout the season, but they also made sure to maintain their team and league commitment to scholastics,” stated Mazzuca.
