FRENCH RIVER – A well-balanced attack and the shutout goaltending of Derrick Champagne saw the Powassan Voodoos sink the French River Rapids 7-0 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.
The visiting Voodoos started strong and kicked off the scoring 1:35 into the contest when Heath Bradley worked his was free down low and fired a pass to Ryan Saginaw in the right circle that he promptly pumped upstairs on Rapids’ netminder Kieran Caughran.
Powassan then tacked on another a few shifts later when they generated a turnover in the neutral zone that led to Caleb Dawson finishing off a Bradley feed on a two-on-one.
More from the Voodoos saw Dylan Rousselle make it 3-0 as he ripped in a shot through a screen.
French River did put Matis Bureau-Morel in between the pipes to play the final 5:52 of the period.
With Caughran back in to begin the middle frame, Paval Barclay swatted one in from the top of the crease moments in.
Adding to their cushion at 5:08, Owen Head made it 5-0 Powassan as he chipped in a pass put his was from Jesse Lefebvre.
Moving to the final session, Bradley helped seal the road victory by lifting in an opportunity while moving into the crease.
Benjamin Coupal’s first in a Powassan jersey capped off the scoring in the contest, in which the Voodoos ran a winning streak to five.
