GALLERY: Cochrane collects home win over Kirkland Lake

COCHRANE, Ont. – Using the boost of a fast start, the Cochrane Crunch supplied three first period goals to help send them on their way to a 4-1 victory versus the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Sunday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Tim Horton Event Centre.

Cameron Frost was there to put Cochrane in front five and a half minutes into the match-up as his side broke out in transition and he took a cross-ice feed before ripping upstairs over the blocker of Kirkland Lake starter John Lloyd.

The Crunch then made it 2-0 halfway through the first when Jonathan Hutorsky tipped in a Will Stewart shot from the point, moments into a man advantage, that eluded a screened Lloyd.

Tacking on another just before the end of the frame, Morgan Porter was sent in alone on a clear-cut breakaway and make a quick deke to his right and scored just before the buzzer sounded to complete the period.

In the second stanza, recently acquired Yenry Jibb picked up his first in a Cochrane jersey with the lone tally of the session at 14:18 as he redirected a Blake Menard shot from up top during an extra-skater opportunity.

Dashing Jake Dubinsky’s shutout bid with just over seven minutes remaining in the contest, the Gold Miners connected as John-Paul Scaringi chipped in a close-range backhand over the pad of the Crunch goalkeeper.

That would be it in terms of any more goals being scored as the clubs finished off with a split of their weekend home-and-home set.
