Gold Miners name Schoeneich new head coach/co-GM

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Kirkland Lake Gold Miners announced Friday that they have named Richard Schoeneich the club’s new head coach and co-general manager.

The 42-year-old Rouyn-Noranda, Que., product joins the Gold Miners following two-plus seasons on the staff of the Abitibi-Temiscamingue College Gaillards program in Quebec.

Schoeneich was also previously behind the bench with the Rouyn-Noranda Citadelles AAA program as well as being an assistant on a regional team at the Quebec Games.

He is scheduled to make his NOJHL debut for Kirkland Lake tonight as they host the French River Rapids in a 7 p.m. start at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Schoeneich will be joined by assistant coaches Rick Witty and Jed Allick on the full-time staff, along with Tom Sinclair in an advisory & part time coaching role.

He’ll also work along side Barry Ferguson as a co-general manager with the organization.
