FRENCH RIVER – The Soo Eagles Huckson brothers, Colton and Carter, combined for five goals to lead their squad to a 7-3 victory over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matchup Saturday at Noelville Arena.
Visiting Sault Ste. Marie got on the board 13:28 into the contest when Samuel Gold tucked in a wrap around on French River goalkeeper William Popik.
More from the Eagles late in the first saw Harmon Esch take a play wide on the left side as he worked his way around a defender then while driving across the crease, notched in his team-leading 14th tally of the season.
Heading to the second period, the Rapids’ Dacey Dupuis struck shorthanded early as he benefitted form a turnover in deep and stuff in an in close chance.
The Soo got that back quickly thanks to Colton Huckson blasting in pass back from Gold.
Responding on a man advantage, Leif Sigfusson got French River back to within one as he whipped a shot that flew past goaltender Daryn Szabo.
Going back up by a pair while up a skater, Carter Huckson sent a low shot through the legs of Popik from distance.
More from Sigfusson late in the stanza saw him take a flip pass from Kaddes Katapatuk and while driving down the left wing fire a shot through Szabo at 19:35.
In the third, Carter Huckson made it 5-3 at 4:11 when he snapped in a quick shot off a Gabriel Clark set-up.
One more from Carter Huckson helped secure the road result as he forced a giveaway and ripped a shot by the glove of Popik.
Colton Huckson then finished it off with his third of the night to wrap things up.
