ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Riding the second career Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League hat trick of Jesse Lefebvre lifted the Powassan Voodoos to a 6-1 win over the Elliot Lake Vikings Saturday in a meeting held at Rogers Arena.
The visiting Voodoos opened the scoring two and a half minutes into the contest when Caden Dubreuil, darting down the right wing, cut around a Vikings’ defender, who lost and edge and fell, then went hard to the net where he lifted a shot past goaltender Jacob Kirstein.
More from Powassan at 15:31, Lefebvre was sent in on the left wing in transition from Scott Szczygiel that allowed him to wire a sizzler into the back of the net.
Despite being thwarted on a two-man advantage to commence the second stanza, the Voodoos did connect moments after the expiration of that when Devran Brown fired a shot from the point that Szczygiel tipped upstairs at 1:20.
Striking again less than a minute later, Caleb Dawson made it 4-0 when he corralled a feed put his way from Owen Smith and proceeded to lift a backhand into the net.
Another off the stick of Lefebvre saw him connect at 12:03 as he pumped one upstairs over the shoulder of the Elliot Lake goalkeeper.
The Vikings eventually solved Voodoos’ goalkeeper Declan McNamara with a man advantage effort at 7:19 when Jonathan Pouchnik potted his initial NOJHL tally by collecting a rebound off a Sloan Kroeker attempt and ripping it upstairs.
Lefebvre got that back by completing his three-goal night just over a minute later in rounding out the scoring with a quick low shot on a delayed penalty.
The wins raises Powassan’s record to 3-0-0-0 while Elliot Lake slipped to 1-2-0-1.
