HEARST, Ont. – Mavrik Chan-Miguel tallied twice, one of which was the game-winner, and added an assist to help lead the Hearst Lumberjacks to their ninth consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday as they defeated the Timmins Rock 4-1 at Claude Larose Recreation Centre.
A fast-moving opening frame went scoreless as the two clubs went to their respective dressing rooms for the first intermission still in search of a goal.
Finding their scoring touch early in the second stanza, each team found the back of the net early.
Luc Warner got one for Hearst as he cranked in a short-side blast upstairs on Timmins’ goalkeeper Ayden Mullen off a Chan-Miguel set-up at 1:46.
With the marker, Warner is now on a 12-game heater, points wise.
The Rock came right back less than a minute later thanks to Maxx Hamelin as he worked his way into the Lumberjacks’ zone and while driving to the net, was left with plenty of room to slide a chance along the ice into the right side for his 11th of the campaign.
Hearst countered that while up a skater as Chan-Miguel converted at 4:20 off a head-man feed generated by goaltender Jack Helkie and guided in a rebound off a Cameron Menard shot.
Chan-Miguel’s good night continued in the third as he was gifted a turnover between the circles and promptly buried it at 6:10.
Dylan Garvin then capped it off with an empty netter in the last minute to ice the home ice win.
With the result, the Lumberjacks move to 30-8-0-3 overall and in defeat, the Rock fall to 30-11-0-2.
The two sides will meet again Monday afternoon in a 2 p.m. Family Day matinee in Timmins.
