TIMMINS, Ont. – Kaeden McArthur scored the game’s first and final goals to help lift the Timmins Rock to a 4-1 triumph over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Sunday afternoon at McIntyre Arena.

Entering the game with a 9-1 record this season when scoring first, the Rock connected 15:07 into the contest when McArthur knocked in the rebound past Gold Miners’ netminder Glen McInnes, off a Tanner Hickey shot from the right point.

With the tally, McArthur has now notched a goal in three straight and he also extended a point streak to five.

Kirkland Lake answered that 35 second later when Fynn Manttari fired a feed in front that clipped off teammate Matthew Neuman and in on Timmins’ starter Ayden Mullen.

Regrouping quickly, the home side tacked on a pair of tallies before the intermission as Ryan Armitage got just enough of a bouncing puck off a Jack Quevillon attempt to skip into the net, while Evan Katic tipped in a Zach Secord wrister from up top.

Moving to the middle frame, play tightened up defensively as the session went without a marker as the Rock carried their 3-1 cushion into the third period.

There, Timmins eventually sealed the outcome in the final minute, via the power play, as Brant Romaniuk saucered a pass up to McArthur who went in alone and neatly tucked a backhand through the legs of McInnes to round out the scoring.

With the assist, Romaniuk runs a point streak to six.

This now gives the Rock 54 straight wins over the Gold Miners

The last time Kirkland Lake beat Timmins in regular season play was November 29, 2018, on a late Joshua Maine game-winner.
