NOJHL announces initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week
SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today its initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the 2014-15 season.
Week 1 Eastlink TV star honours went to forwards Brady Clouthier of the Abitibi Eskimos, Cray Roberge of the Sudbury Nickel Barons and Jason Berube of the Cochrane Crunch with each of the three recipients being recognized for their offensive efforts on their respective opening nights of the year.
BRADY CLOUTHIER, (F) ABITIBI ESKIMOS – The veteran forward impressed in his season debut for the Eskimos firing home four straight goals in a 7-1 triumph over Powassan on Sept. 6 at Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls.
The 20-year-old Arnprior, Ont. native is coming off a 66-point campaign with Abitibi last season, which included 30 tallies.
CRAY ROBERGE, (F) SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS – Roberge notched the first two markers of the 2014-15 campaign and added another later in the same contest to finish off a hat trick aiding Sudbury’s efforts in a 4-2 season-opening triumph this past Wednesday vs. Mattawa.
The 18-year-old Val Caron product is in his first year with the Nickel Barons after spending 2013-14 with Espanola.
Roberge also represented the NOJHL at last year’s Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Prospects Games in Nova Scotia where he shared the team point lead.
JASON BERUBE, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – It was a dream debut in Cochrane for Berube as he racked up five points in the club’s franchise opening victory, a hard-fought 6-5 decision over the Mattawa Blackhawks on Sept. 4.
Berube was credited with scoring the first goal in Crunch history as he struck 83 seconds into their first game.
The 20-year-old, who hails from Port Cartier, Que., added another marker in the match-up and dished out a trio of assists, including the game-winner.
Berube’s five points lead the NOJHL in offensive production after week 1 of play.
