SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forwards Nolan Newton (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and Kaeden McArthur (Timmins Rock), along with defenceman William Pâquet (Hearst Lumberjacks), have been named its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Dec. 1.
Nolan Newton, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Collecting six points in a pair of Greater Sudbury victories last week, Newton’s contributions helped his side continue their solid campaign.
In all, the 18-year-old from nearby French River, Ont., scored three times and dished out as many assists in wins over Powassan and Espanola.
Newton currently has five multi-point efforts in succession on the go and dating back to last season, has etched his name on the game sheet in 12 consecutive contests.
Kaeden McArthur, (F) Timmins Rock: Aiding in the Rock’s current league-high nine-game winning streak, McArthur chipped in with a total of six points in a pair of Timmins’ triumphs over the weekend.
Skating for his hometown club, the 19-year-old forward posted back-to-back three-point efforts in results over Espanola and Iroquois Falls, with a goal and five helpers.
With 10 points in his past four match-ups, McArthur has moved up to second in team scoring with 28 in 22 appearances, including 11 tallies. He also surpassed the 100-game plateau in his time with the Rock.
William Pâquet, (D) Hearst Lumberjacks: Solid at both ends of the ice, the 19-year-old blueliner from Gatineau, Que., dished out five assists in a pair of contests that Hearst won at home against Kirkland Lake.
Pâquet has already surpassed his career single-season highs in both assists and points with 17 and 21 respectively to move into third spot in overall scoring among NOJHL defencemen.
Meanwhile two of his four goals have been game-winners, which ties him for first by rearguards. The Lumberjacks are also 11-2 in which he has picked up at least one point.
