NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Andrew Gibson (Soo Thunderbirds), along with forwards Raphael Lajeunesse (Hearst Lumberjacks) and Chase MacQueen-Spence (Powassan Voodoos) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Nov. 7.

ANDREW GIBSON, (D) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Another solid run for the Thunderbirds rookie blueliner saw the 16-year-old Windsor, Ont., product contribute at both ends of the ice by helping his side go 2-0-0-1 in a tightly-packed three-game weekend set of match-ups.

In all, Gibson scored three times, including a game-winner, and doled out a trio of assists to vault his side into a share of first overall in the NOJHL standings.

His offensive contributions to date see him pacing all league defencemen in both goals and points with nine and 18 respectively.

Gibson’s six man advantage markers also lead the way among all D-men and tie him for second amongst all skaters.

RAPHAEL LAJEUNESSE, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – Notching quality markers in both Hearst triumphs over the weekend, Lajeunesse continued to impress for the Lumberjacks.

Friday the 20-year-old from Mont-Laurier, Que., scored after darting down the left wing and roofing a shot into the top right-hand corner in a home ice win over Kirkland Lake Friday.

The following evening he collected the game-winner with a rapid-release one-timer from the slot in another decision vs. the Gold Miners as he recorded his team-leading ninth goal.

Having already surpassed his goal, assist and point totals from last season, Lajeunesse has only been held off the game sheet three times in his first 14 games in 2021-22.

CHASE MACQUEEN-SPENCE, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – In his club’s lone contest for the week, MacQueen-Spence tallied twice and doled out an assist in Powassan’s road victory over French River Friday.

The 16-year-old from London, Ont., currently sits tied for second in offensive production with the Voodoos, having collected 14 points in 17 outings.

His numbers also put him into a share of second spot in NOJHL rookie scoring

In games he has scored so far this season, Powassan is unbeaten with a 5-0 record. They are also 8-0 when he has registered at least one point in a contest.
