SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Kenyon Nyman (Timmins Rock), forward Cameron Shanks (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and goaltender Landon Miller (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 23.
KENYON NYMAN, (D) TIMMINS ROCK – Earning accolades for a second-straight week, the Rock blueliner was productive on both ends of the ice in a pair of Timmins victories.
Of the 10 goals his club scored, the 20-year-old Maple Ridge, B.C., product played a part in seven of them by tallying twice and dishing out five assists while only seeing his team allowing just one against.
Currently pacing all NOJHL defencemen in offensive production, and sitting third overall among all skaters with 25 points, Nyman has collected six markers and 19 helpers in his first 17 league contests.
CAMERON SHANKS (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – Registering two-point outings in both of Greater Sudbury’s wins during the time frame, Shanks helped the NOJHL-leading Cubs improve to 12-2-2-0 on the season.
The 18-year-old from Lively, Ont., notched single tallies in triumphs over Powassan and Espanola while adding a helper in each contest as well.
With Greater Sudbury sporting an 8-0-1-0 record in games in which Shanks collected at least one point, Shanks has 13 in his initial 16 games in 2022-23.
LANDON MILLER, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Backstopping the Thunderbirds to two extra-time decisions, Miller’s efforts helped Sault Ste. Marie extend a winning streak to five in succession.
Hailing from Thornhill, Ont., the 16-year-old rookie netminder earned a shootout win, with four extra attempt stops, over Blind River as well as an overtime decision versus the rival Soo Eagles completing the week with a 1.89 goals-against average and a save percentage of .930.
Early in his league tenure, Miller has a record of 5-0-0-1, is tied for the NOJHL-lead with a save mark of .937 and sits third overall with an average of 1.93.
