NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Hudson Chitaroni (Greater Sudbury Cubs); defenceman Andrey Manov (Blind River Beavers) and goaltender Connor Hatfield (Soo Thunderbirds) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending September 24.

HUDSON CHITARONI, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – A productive two-game stint for the rookie forward saw him register seven points in a pair of high-scoring victories for league-leading Greater Sudbury.

The 16-year-old Chitaroni, who calls Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., home, began his week by notching his first NOJHL hat trick in a home ice win over French River Thursday and then followed that with two tallies, and a couple of assists, Sunday in a triumph over Espanola.

He currently tops all first-year players in the league in both goals and point-per-game average at six and 2.00 respectively.

ANDREY MANOV, (D) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – The 19-year-old blueliner from West Vancouver, B.C., performed admirably at both ends of the ice during the time frame, which produced a pair of wins for Blind River.

Manov began with a couple of helpers in a decision against Powassan Friday, then scored twice, including collecting the game-winner, Sunday as the Beavers got by Iroquois Falls.

He’ll enter the final week of September leading his club in offensive numbers, with a dozen points, which also slots him second overall among NOJHL defencemen.

CONNOR HATFIELD, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Making an immediate impression for the Thunderbirds, Hatfield posted a shutout in his league debut in blanking Iroquois Falls Saturday night.

His efforts also helped Sault Ste. Marie pick-up a point in a shootout setback Sunday afternoon against Powassan, going 1-0-0-1 in his first two league appearances.

The 18-year-old from Saskatoon, Sask., already holds the early lead among NOJHL netminders in goals-against average at 1.44; sits in front in terms of save percentage, and also shares top spot in shutouts, with one.
