SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Cameron Menard (Hearst Lumberjacks); defenceman Nolan Chabot (Timmins Rock) and forward Owen Smith (Powassan Voodoos) have been named its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending October 18.
Cameron Menard, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks: Amassing nine points during a three-game road trip, Menard’s offensive output helped Hearst collect a trio of victories.
The 20-year-old from West Carleton, Ont., scored four times and dished out six assists for the Lumberjacks over the weekend to help extend a point streak to six in succession.
An alumnus of the Pembroke Lumber Kings U18 AAA program, Menard enters the new week tied for the NOJHL scoring lead with 25 points, including a league-best 13 goals.
Nolan Chabot, (D) Timmins Rock: Contributing at both ends of the ice, Chabot’s efforts aided the Rock in a return to the win column with a pair of triumphs away from home.
Hailing from Guelph, Ont., the 19-year-old defenceman helped set-up the tying tally in an overtime victory at Powassan Friday, then had a goal and two assists, including one on the game-winner, as Timmins won in French River.
Playing previously with the Okanagan Hockey Ontario Prep system, Chabot sits tied for the Rock scoring lead among blueliners with 11 points, which also has him sharing sixth overall among all NOJHL D-men.
Owen Smith, (F) Powassan Voodoos: A five-point week for the 17-year-old from nearby North Bay had Smith help Powassan earn three of a possible four points in a two-game home-set.
Last season’s NOJHL Rookie of the Year, dished out a pair of helpers in an OT setback versus Timmins, then tallied once and contributed on two others as part of a victory versus Iroquois Falls.
Averaging a point and a half per-game on the campaign with the Voodoos, Smith, a standout with the North Bay Trappers AAA side in his minor hockey days, has a dozen points to date on four tallies and eight assists in eight outings.
