SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Frédéric Cousineau (Timmins Rock) as well as forwards Nolan Newton (Greater Sudbury Cubs) Jonah McIndoo (Blind River Beavers) have been named its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending November 30.
Frédéric Cousineau, (G) Timmins Rock – Winning both of his appearances last week for the surging Rock, Cousineau’s efforts helped Timmins extend a winning streak to 11 consecutive contests, while holding the two highest scoring teams in the league to a combined three goals.
The 20-year-old netminder from Malartic, Que., began with a 6-2 triumph over the Espanola Paper Kings, then followed that up with a 2-1 overtime victory over the front-running Greater Sudbury Cubs Sunday afternoon.
Cousineau, who competed in the Amos Forestiers system in Quebec during his minor hockey days, wrapped up his week in the NOJHL with a crisp 1.48 goals-against average along with a stingy .958 save percentage in the time frame.
Nolan Newton, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs – Newton’s contributions helped the Cubs collect three out of four points on a weekend road trip.
The 19-year-old from nearby French River, Ont., started off with his league-leading fourth hat trick of the season, that featured the game-winner, and added an assist in a win at Iroquois Falls Saturday. He then notched his club’s lone marker in an OT setback at Timmins Sunday.
A former stalwart out of the Sudbury Nickel Capitals U16 AAA program, Newton has only been held pointless three times in 23 outings on the campaign to sit third in NOJHL scoring with 49 points, including 23 tallies.
Jonah McIndoo, (F) Blind River Beavers – The 19-year-old Lasalle, Ont., product chipped in offensively in both of the Beavers victories over the weekend.
McIndoo found the back of the net once and set-up another marker Saturday, helping Blind River defeat French River at home Saturday night, then notched his team’s initial tally in a narrow road win over the Soo Thunderbirds Sunday afternoon.
Coming out of the A 21 Hockey Academy in Windsor, Ont., where he excelled for a couple of seasons previously, McIndoo is now a 125-game veteran of the NOJHL where he has registered 73 points in that span on 28 goals and 45 assists.
