TIMMINS, Ont. – Timmins Rock captain Nicolas Pigeon scored twice and added multiple assists to lead his side to an 8-2 decision over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League get together at McIntyre Arena.

Getting the game’s first goal, Kirkland Lake’s Christian Genova made a nice move in front as he pulled the puck up from behind his back then neatly slid it in on Timmins’ starter Patrick Boivin.

Countering with a tying tally, Brady Harroun converted for the Rock by ripping a shot off the post that eventually trickled across the goal line with help from Pigeon.

Timmins then took the lead late in the period with Pigeon collecting one while alone on front and tucked it past Gold Miners’ goalkeeper Braydon Granhart.

Some impressive movement early into a power play saw the Rock go up by a pair as Nicholas Frederick neatly redirected a Kenyon Nymon shot from inside the blueline.

Building on that, the hosts added another right off the draw that saw Nolan Ring finish off a crisp pass by Harroun.

Breaking it open in the third, Pigeon potted his second of night as he converted on a man advantage with a effort from the left circle.

Ethan Pool’s first in the NOJHL came near the midway point of the final session as he flew around the back of the net and came out on the other side and stuffed in a wraparound to help secure the decision.

John-Paul Scaringi got one back for the visitors at 13:11 by knocking in a rebound off a shot that Boivin could not control, but the Rock’s Daniel Beaupre did a quick spin in the right circle and ripped one into the top shelf a couple of minutes later.

Forcing a turnover, Harroun wrapped up the scoring in the late going by making no mistake from in close.
