Powassan lights up Blind River

BLIND RIVER – The Powassan Voodoos scored a franchise-record 10 times en route to a 10-2 pasting of the Blind River Beavers Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Blind River Community Centre.

The visiting Voodoos got off to a tremendous start grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play getting markers from Aaron Dart, Dante Juris and Nathaniel McLeod, who connected on the power play.

Powassan then went up 7-2 after 40 minutes on tallies by McLeod, Aaron Sullivan, Steve Harland and Kyle Moore while Chris Zajac and Dallas Miller countered for Blind River in the session.

The Voodoos then tacked on three more in the final session to conclude the night’s scoring on efforts supplied by Tyler Gervais-Rolfe, Brett Lepisto and Michael Silveri.

Harland also doled out three assists to aid the offensive outburst with Bo Peltier, Sullivan and Gervais-Rolfe supplying two helpers apiece.

Ben Auger made 25 stops to record the win for the Voodoos.

Beavers’ starter Zach Mills suffered the loss allowing three against on nine shots and Nick Kazmierczak stopped 24 in relief.

NOJHL play resumes Sunday as Powassan visits Elliot Lake for a 7:30 p.m. start vs. the Wildcats at Centennial Arena.
