IROQUOIS FALLS, ON – Henry McLellan scored the only goal of a four round shootout to give the Timmins Rock a 6-5 road victory at the Jus Jordan Arena on Friday night.
McLellan came in with speed and went upstairs on Storm netminder Connor Hatfield for the lone goal in the shootout as Hatfield’s counterpart Patrick Boivin, playing in his 100th NOJHL game, stopped all four shooters he faced including a confident poke check stop on the Storm’s final shooter Max Jugnauth to seal the comeback win for the Rock.
Lucas Lowe got the Rock going early in the first as he scored his 11th at 6:28 which made it 1-0 for the visitors.
However, the Storm got the Jus Jordan Arena crowd going less than four minutes later when Ben Sherwin registered his 9th of the season to even things at 1-1 after the first period.
The Rock power play got rolling in the second period as Felix Cadieux-Fredette put home is 2nd of the season at 13:53 which made it 2-1 on a 5 on 3, then just over 30 seconds later Thomas Beard potted his 14th with the extra man to make it 3-2 Rock.
The power play markers did not shake the homeside as Max Jugnauth scored his 10th just over a minute later on a Storm power play to cut the Rock lead to 3-2.
The Storm evened things up in the third as Patrice Lafontaine netted an unassisted tally 2:10 into the period which made it 3-3.
Andre Cho gave the Storm their first lead at 10:18 of the third as he scored his 10th.
The Storm’s Jugnauth potted his second of the game to give the Storm a 5-3 lead at 13:26 of the third period.
The Rock though, did not give up as Beard notched his 15th at 14:04 to cut the lead to 5-4 and then just over 30 seconds after that Brant Romaniuk scored the equalizer to make it 5-5 and send the game to overtime and the shootout.
The win moves the NOJHL East leading Rock to 28-11-2 while the Storm move to 11-29-0-2.
