ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Justin Charette’s man advantage marker late in the second period held up as the game-winner as the Timmins Rock skated to a narrow 3-2 decision over the Elliot Lake Red Wings Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena.

The visiting Rock picked up some early momentum by scoring twice in the opening five minutes of the affair.

It began with Yan Bessette extending a personal consecutive game point streak to six as he tallied just 75 seconds into the match-up while going to the net off a faceoff win by his club and blasting one by Red Wings’ starter Sean Guerin.

Timmins then saw Brady Harroun move into a share of the NOJHL goal-scoring lead at 4:16 as he buried his 31st marker of the campaign by cranking a one-timer over the shoulder of Guerin from the left circle, courtesy of a Nicolas Pigeon back pass.

Moving to the middle frame, Elliot Lake’s Evan Dantas cut into the deficit at 5:56 as he picked the corner on the Rock’s Patrick Boivin from the left corner.

Getting that back late in the period, Charette restored the two-goal cushion at 18:56 as he made a leaping redirection off a Felix Cadieux-Fredette deep into a man advantage opportunity.

In the third, the Red Wings continued to battle and moved back to within one thanks to Silas Crawford who got a piece of a Thomas Dimoulas attempt and saw it get by Boivin at 2:23.

Timmins tightened up defensively from there and held on to collect the road decision.
