Hard work has paid off for Liam Serviss.
The 20-year-old Westmeath, Ontario product has received a commitment to play for the Royal Military College Paladins of the OUA starting in 2023-24.
The 5’9” 174 pound Voodoos forward has netted 6 goals and 21 assists for 27 points through 44 games with the Voodoos.
“Liam has been great for us all season and Liam plays in all situation for our team he will be continuing his education and hockey career at RMC / Royal Military College in Kingston,” said Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach and VP of hockey operations.
For Serviss, RMC has been a school he has been looking at since his first season playing junior hockey.
“My last two seasons were not great but had a re-set coming here and I had lots of opportunities and made the most of it,” he said.
“The school was interested and it worked the best for me,” added Serviss.
“RMC has been Liam’s dream school to attend for many years and to see this young man reach his dream school is amazing,” Goulet said.
“Liam is a great example of a player that just kept preserving through the ups and downs of Junior hockey. Liam has played on five different Jr A teams and a couple Jr B teams over the past four years, hard work and always believing in yourself is the number one factor to achieve your goals in hockey and life.”
Serviss believes he fits the mold of the hard working player that the Paladins program conveys.
“I think it does, I am an energy guy, high work rate all the time and that is what the school really embodies with the leadership abilities as well so i think it is the best fit I could have found academics and hockey-wise,” said Serviss who will enrol in a Bachelor of Arts and pursue an opportunity as a Logistics Officer as his trade.
Serviss, who also spent some time with the Espanola franchise, believes the NOJHL was a great development ground for him.
“I think the league is undervalued,” admits Serviss.
“I think for a guy who did not have the success in the CCHL I think it was a perfect fit for me to come here and prove myself and it turned out great.”
Serviss joins goaltender Kannon Flageolle as the second Voodoos player to commit to a school.
Flageolle committed to Suffolk University (NCAA D III) in early February.
