Sudbury storms back to edge Elliot Lake

SUDBURY – The Sudbury Nickel Barons erupted for four third period goals en route to a 4-3 come from behind victory over the visiting Elliot Lake Bobcats Wednesday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McClelland Arena.

The night’s opening tally came late in the first period as the Bobcats’Torrin Grange connected on the power play with just over two minutes to go in the frame.

Elliot Lake’s Aaron Carmichael made it 2-0 through 40 minutes beating Sudbury starter Andrew Lefebvre for his ninth of the campaign at 7:19 of the middle stanza.

Sudbury finally got on the board at 9:07 of the third courtesy of Ryan Punkari.

The Nickel Barons pulled even two minutes later thanks to a Jimmy Roy effort.

They then took the lead a minute and a half later when Giovanni Foschia scored on Alex Bitsakis.

Elliot Lake tied it 3-3 at 16:05 when Bryan McFarlane eluded Lefebvre, but Bradley Bell answered right back 15 seconds later by burying the game-winner.

Fefebvre made 51 saves in recording the win for Sudbury who put 35 pucks on Bitsakis.

NOJHL action continues Friday with a trio of 7:30 p.m. starts as Sault Ste. Marie hosts North Bay, Espanola entertains Kirkland Lake and Elliot Lake is at home to Blind River.
