Thunderbirds’ Metivier named NOJHL Playoff MVP

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Soo Thunderbirds’ goaltender Noah Metivier has been named its 2022 Playoff Most Valuable Player.

The 18-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product backstopped his club to four consecutive victories in the NOJHL final as the Thunderbirds rallied from a three-games-to-none deficit to win the league’s Copeland Cup – McNamara Trophy title over the Hearst Lumberjacks.

In overall postseason play, Metivier posted an 8-2 record, including being credited with 191 stops in the seven-game final alone.

He paced all league netminders in playoff goals-against average (2.08), was third in save percentage (.924) and posted one shutout.

Metivier, a first team NOJHL All-Star, also led the way during the regular season with a 1.88 GAA along and a .922 save mark while sharing league-lead in shutouts with six.
