Trappers’ trio tame Beavers

NORTH BAY –  The North Bay Trappers got a goal and assist apiece from Eric Champagne, Chance Thomas and C.J. Nicholson to help lead them to a 4-1 victory over the Blind River Beavers Monday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at West Ferris Arena.

After Champagne uncorked the North Bay offense four and half minutes into the contest, Blind River pulled even before the opening stanza was complete as Scott Marshall beat Trappers’ starter Dustin Hummel at 16:24.

Thomas then notched the eventual game-winner early in the middle frame as he found the mark 93 seconds after the start of the session for the period’s only tally.

Nicholson extended the lead for the home side 3:53 into the third and then he and Thomas set-up Ryan Demyen with eight minutes to go to round out the night’s scoring.

Hummel finished with 37 saves to register the victory for North Bay who won for a third straight outing on home ice as they raised their overall record to 8-13-0-4.

Dylan Knox was tested 35 times in a losing cause for the Beavers as their winless streak reached 11 games while falling to 4-19-0-1 on the season.

NOJHL action continues Wednesday as Elliot Lake pays a visit to Great Sudbury to meet the Nickel Barons in a 7:30 p.m. start at McClelland Arena.
