POWASSAN, Ont. – Mike Levin’s 14th goal of the season, early in the second period, held up as the game-winner as the Powassan Voodoos went on to edge the French River Rapids 2-1 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Powassan got the game’s opening tally seven minutes into the contest as Brett Richardson banged in the rebound off an attempt put on net by the Voodoos’ Jacob Dupont.
Heading to the second stanza, French River were quick to tie it as Cooper Bowman converted for his 18th goal of the season a half-minute in.
Answering back, the Voodoos regained the lead a couple of shifts later though as Easton Robitaille put a back pass in front right to Levin, who stuffed one in from the top of the crease, in what proved to be the night’s final marker.
Throughout the night, the goaltenders in Powassan’s Owen Wray and the Rapids’ Justin Dilauro were solid on both ends of the ice, in the low-scoring affair.
With Wray picking up the win, the Voodoos moved into top spot overall in the NOJHL standings, one point clear of the second-place Timmins Rock, who do however hold three games in hand.
They are now 21-6-4-1 on the season, while French River slipped to 17-13-1-0 on the campaign in defeat.
