Wildcats bite Nickel Barons in OT

SUDBURY – A Nate Sepeda goal 3:44 into overtime lifted the Elliot Lake Wildcats to a 3-2 vicory over the Sudbury Nickel Barons in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair held Sunday evening at the Sudbury Community Arena.

With the decision, the Wildcats are now unbeaten in their past eight with a 7-0-0-1 record in that span.

It took the home side just 96 seconds to get on the board first as Sudbury’s Christopher Rossi notched his 11th marker of the season.

Elliot Lake tied it six minutes later as defenceman Nathan Campbell picked up his 16th tally of the campaign.

The Nickel Barons retook the lead at 14:44 of the first as Dylan Callaghan beat Wildcats starter Allan Menary.

Elliot Lake secured the lone tally of the second stanza when Adam Baxter’s attempt eluded Jessie Morin in the Sudbury net.

Neither side would convert in the third forcing extra time to decide a winner.

In the first extra session, Sedpeda won it with the two sides going four skaters aside to give the Wildcats the second point on the night.

Menary kicked out 31 shots to earn the victory for Elliot Lake while Morin helped his side earn a point with the OT setback in the Sudbury net stopping 47 of 50 attempts fired his way.
