3-point night for Bruce as Eskis top French River

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Iroquois Falls Eskis got a pair of goals and an assist from Dillan Bruce to help them defeat the French River Rapids 6-2 Wednesday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at Noelville Arena.

Bruce reached the 20-goal plateau on the season just past the 13-minute mark of the first period to put visitors in front.

Iroquois Falls upped their lead late in the frame on Alex Mitsionis’11th to put them up by a pair.

Special teams allowed the Eskis to get the eventual game-winner 5:39 into the middle session as Jacob Herrberg scored on the power play.

Grant Omyer extended the cushion to four 58 seconds later while Bruce picked up another at 10:56 to spell the end of French River starter Korlan Vader’s night in favour of back-up Evan Peltier.

Iroquois Falls made it 6-0 early in the third thanks to Blake Holowaty before the Rapids’ Will Frustaglio broke Artem Bortovskiy’s shutout bid with 2:34 to go.

French River added one more, off the stick of Jordan Picard, in the final minute to round out the scoring.

Herrberg chipped in with two assists for the Eskis as did Josh Dejulio and Shadow Reuben.

Bortovskiy finished with 40 saves to pick up the victory.

Vader suffered the setback allowing five against on 25 shots while Peltier stopped 14 of 15 in just over 29 minutes of relief.
