Amaya’s natural hat trick helps Gold Miners rally in win over Eskis

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Kirkland Lake Gold Miners captain Ashton Amaya had a natural hat trick as part of a four-goal third period by his team to help them rally for a 5-3 come from behind decision over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

Ryan Gruszka got Iroquois Falls off to a good start as he notched his eighth of the campaign two minutes into the contest.

Kirkland Lake countered with the equalizer at 8:22 of the first thanks to Matthew Brassard.

The Eskis came back and tallied twice in the middle session to go up 3-1 after 40 minutes on markers from David Stickney and Wade Auger.

An early power play allowed the Gold Miners to commence their comeback and Amaya scored on the man advantage at 3:10 to pull the visitors to within one.

He then tied it two and a half minutes later before capping off his three-tally outburst with 5:06 to go by adding the eventual game-winner.

William Mizuik then finished off the comeback in the final minute on an empty net effort with Kirkland Lake goaltender Allan Menary picking up an assist on the play.

Menary also made 30 saves to register the win for the Gold Miners while Artem Bortovskiy stopped 39 of 43 in defeat for Iroquois Falls.

The Eskis’ Shadow Reuben and Dillan Bruce both saw lengthy point streaks come to a close in the loss.
