ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Picking up four assists, Hunter Berry’s efforts helped his Blind River Beavers skate to a 5-2 triumph over the Elliot Lake Red Wings in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at Centennial Arena.
After a scoreless first frame, Blind River broke things open in the middle stanza by striking for their three tallies, eight and half minutes apart, to break things open.
Dylan Hendrick got the guests going at 6:28 as he banged one in, after a few cracks at it, from the right of Elliot Lake goalkeeper Nolan Chartrand.
It was more from the Beavers past the midway point of the session as Evan Fraccaro got one in similar fashion as he too was rewarded off a goal-mouth scramble.
First-year defenceman George Alboim then made it 3-0 with his initial league goal as he pinched in from the point and was set-up nicely by Berry before converting on a crisp back-door play.
Needing a spark, Elliot Lake got on in the waning moments of the period as Jace Simington-Lesanko let one go through a crowd from the right point that eluded Blind River netminder Gavin Disano.
However, the guests regrouped and went up 4-1 at 6:20 of the third when Ethan Pegg pushed in from the right point and potted his second of the season.
The Beavers then put the game away half way through the period as a Red Wings pass clipped the skate of Trevor Zimmer, which allowed Caleb Minns to dart in alone on a shorthanded breakaway, where he made no mistake.
A late power play aided in a final goal for Elliot Lake when Owen Ciavoliello got his first in the league, with just 11 seconds to play.
Disano made 39 saves in collecting the win while Chartrand saw 47 shots against him in a losing cause.
