KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Blind River Beavers captain Caleb Serre scored for an eighth consecutive game and dished out three assists to help propel his squad to a 5-2 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting Friday at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Having yet to taste defeat in regulation so far this season, Blind River gained the early edge on Kirkland Lake with a pair of tallies late in the first period as Andrew Malek contributed in his NOJHL debut while Serre, while up a skater, tallied in his eighth straight outing as the guests carried a two-goal cushion into the first intermission.

The Beavers added to their lead just past the five-minute mark of the middle stanza thanks to Jack Tos, who picked up his opening league marker as they ran their cushion to three.

Not done there, Blind River got another during a lengthy power play as Lucas Adams supplied his seventh at 8:26.

Earning a man advantage of their own, the Gold Miners got on the board a couple of minutes later seeing Landis Antonic slam in his fifth while scoring for a fourth straight game.

Down a man late in the second, Kirkland Lake’s Connor Van Weelie struck shorthanded to bring the home side to within a pair heading to the third.

Third period play saw Jake Behnen register his opening league marker for the Beavers as they went up by three with 17:13 to play via the man advantage in what proved to be the night’s final marker.

Shots on goal on the night favoured Blind River by a 39-29 count with Wyatt Courchaine picking up the win while Kohl Reddy suffered the defeat.
