FRENCH RIVER – Matthew Brassard scored once and helped set-up three others to lead the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to a 6-1 decision over the French River Rapids in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair Saturday at Noelville Arena.
Kirkland Lake kicked off the night’s scoring just past the four-minute mark of the contest when James Scott fed Brassard for his seventh goal of 2018-19.
French River countered a couple of shifts later to knot the affair at 1-1 thanks to Griffin Simpson’s third of the season.
However, the Gold Miners regained the lead with Hunter Foreshew supplying his 11th at 16:25 to give the guests a 2-1 lead.
They weren’t done there either as they added another before the second period was complete thanks to a late power play that saw Joshua Maine supply his 10th to make it 3-1 through 40 minutes.
It was more Kirkland Lake early in the third as Aiden Wagner added his 12th while Sam Ellwood notched his 11th with a shorthanded marker at 5:47 to help secure the road victory.
The Gold Miners added one more in the final minute as Nicholas Richards connected on a late power play chance to wrap things up.
Brassard added three assists to go with his goal to complete his second four-point night of his NOJHL career.
Gregory Brassard picked up the win in net for Kirkland Lake while the Rapids’ Carson Murison suffered the defeat.
