Crunch humble Blackhawks

COCHRANE – The foursome of Aviv Milner, Dustin Cordeiro, Aaron Carmichael and Ian Skinner combined for 18 points as the Cochrane Crunch humbled the visiting Mattawa Blackhawks 16-1 Sunday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Cochrane took control early grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on a Milner power play marker and a pair of even strength efforts from Cody Gratton.

The goals kept coming in the middle stanza as the Crunch extended their lead to 10-1 after 40 minutes of play.

By the midway mark of the contest Milner had two more to hit the hat trick while Alex Goulet had a single.

Mattawa’s lone tally came at 13:30 of the stanza at Jimmy Philbin connected during a man advantage for his fourth goal in a Blackhawks uniform.

Cochrane erupted from there tacking on four more in a span of a minute and 44 seconds thanks to efforts from Carmichael, Liam Hurley, Daniel Stagg and Skinner.

The onslaught continued in the final frame as Cordeiro found the back of the net three times with Stagg, Skinner and Jason Berube getting in on the goal parade.

Nine different Crunch skaters had multiple-point games.

Shots on goal favoured Cochrane by a wide margin, 67-32 with Ben Auger picking up the win.

Joe Sheppard the loss for the Blackhawks with Josh Horner also seeing game action for Mattawa.

The Crunch will look to continue their offensive prowess Monday as they travel to Powassan to take on the Voodoos in a 7 p.m. start Monday at the Sportsplex.
