Dechaine scores 3, assists on another in Cochrane win over Iroquois Falls
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Konnar Dechaine scored three times and set-up another as the Cochrane Crunch dropped the Iroquois Falls Eskis 8-5 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Jus Jordan Arena.
Both teams brought their offensive games in this one scoring three times each in the opening session.
After Braeden Cross put the Crunch in front 5:42 in, Dechaine tacked on his first two of the night to put the visitors up 3-0 early.
Undeterred, Iroquois Falls stormed right back with three of their own with efforts just over two minutes apart via Jay Sidhu, Shadow Reuben and Blake Hollowaty, which spelled the end of Cochrane starter Eric Vanblarcom’s night in favour of Leighton Williams.
Things settled down after that with the Crunch netting the lone tally of the second stanza, which saw Rory Milne bag his first NOJHL goal at 15:09.
Cross had another for Cochrane early in the third as he capitalized on a power play chance to make it 5-3 before another by Sidhu made it close at 3:47.
Brandon McReynolds of the Crunch and Jack Speer of the Eskis traded markers midway through the final session as the goals kept coming.
The visitors finished things off late with Kyle Herbster’s first in the NOJHL at 18:52 before Dechaine rounded out his hat trick in the final minute as he scored into an empty net.
Williams earned the win in relief stopping 27 of 29 shots faced, including a third period penalty shot. Vanblarcom allowed three against on 12 attempts.
Artem Bortovskiy suffered the setback for Iroquois Falls as he faced 39 pucks for the Eskis.
