Eagles earn win in Espanola
ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Soo Eagles used a well-balanced attack getting goals from five different skaters to help them defeat the Espanola Express 5-1 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Complex.
Espanola got off to a good start in this one, netting the night’s opening tally late in the first period as Riley Nadeau connected on the power play at 18:43.
Sault Ste. Marie responded in the second stanza by striking three times early in the frame to go up 3-1 after two periods of play.
Nate Harris tied it for the Eagles a minute and a half into the session while Bradley Hofelich notched the eventual game-winner a couple shifts later.
It was more Soo after that as Jake Cimarusti put the visitors up by two as he picked up his fifth of the season at 8:07.
The Eagles then put the game away in the third on markers by Zac McKenna and Rhett Rampinelli in the latter stages of the contest to wrap up the scoring.
Kade Phipps was called upon the make 45 saves for the Soo as he earned the victory.
Taylor Unruh meanwhile faced 39 shots in defeat for the Express.
