HEARST, Ont. – The surging Hearst Lumberjacks earned their sixth straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory and notched a trio of man advantage markers in defeating the Powassan Voodoo 5-1 Saturday at Claude Larose Arena.

Picking up the game’s initial power play, Hearst capitalized just past the 14-minute mark of the first period as Dominic Dumas supplied his 12th tally of the campaign while also extending a consecutive game point streak to eight in the process.

Getting another man advantage moments later, the Lumberjacks added another when Alex Cannon collected his 15th goal as he scored for a second straight outing.

It was more from Hearst in the middle stanza when Nick Bruno made it 3-0 at 5:06.

The league-leading Voodoos cut into the deficit a few shifts after that thanks to Cameron Lemcke, who collected his first NOJHL goal.

In the third though, the Lumberjacks put the game away on goals in the back half of the frame on markers from Max Griffioen, while up a skater, and Sebastien Doucet, at even strength, to wrap things up.

Griffioen, Jake Desando and Olivier Cloutier-Faucher chipped in with two assists each in the triumph.

Liam Oxner made 30 saves to record the win while Luke Greenwood allowed five against on 37 shots in defeat with Voodoos backup handling the only attempt, he faced, in 5:45 of relief.

The result moves Hearst to within one point of Powassan in the standings, but the Voodoos do hold four games in hand on the Lumberjacks.
