TIMMINS, Ont. – Dominic Dumas had a goal and dished out a pair of assists to help the Hearst Lumberjacks skate to a 4-2 decision over the Timmins Rock in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Wednesday night at McIntyre Arena.
It was the visiting Lumberjacks that kicked off the scoring just past the seven-minute mark of the first periods with Dumas finishing off a Gabriel John-George feed for his third tally of the campaign.
Staying that way until the middle stanza Timmins countered with the equalizer at 5:07 as Owen Shier supplied his second of the year for the Rock with Brendan Boyce and Tyler Gilberds picking up assists on the play.
Both clubs opened up offensively from there, with Josh Dickson putting the home side in front midway through the session.
But, Hearst’s special teams clicked on back-to-back man advantage situations as a pair of newcomers, in David Gobeil, making his NOJHL debut, and Olivier Cloutier-Faucher secured their first league goals just 78 seconds apart to help give the Lumberjacks a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Starting the third with a five-minute power play, the Rock could not capitalize that included handling a minor penalty of their own.
A 30-goal man for Hearst last season, Jake Desando gave his side some insurance as his first of 2019-20 at 7:24 in what proved to be the night’s final marker.
Shots on goal on the night favoured Timmins by a 27-20 margin with Rahul Bola picking up the win while Tyler Masternak suffered the loss.
