KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading Powassan Voodoos picked up a goal and an assist apiece from both Cade Herd and Tyson Gilmour Sunday to help their side skate to a 5-1 decision over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Powassan took a 1-0 lead after one period of play on a Tyson Gilmour effort at 4:45.

Tyler Gilberds’ fifth of the season added another for the Voodoos early in the middle stanza before Herd upped the visitors cushion midway through the contest with his 10th goal overall.

Kirkland Lake did get one back before the frame was complete compliments of Sam Ellwood’s second tally of the campaign.

However Powassan put the game away in the third picking up markers Eric Mondoux and Ryan Theriault to secure the victory.

Graham Dynes made 25 saves to record the win for the Voodoos while Ryan Winter saw 42 shots fired his way in defeat for the Gold Miners.
