Improving Eskis upend Canadians

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The ever-improving Iroquois Falls Eskis impressed once again Friday evening as they skated to a 6-3 victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Jus Jordan Arena.

Dillan Bruce had a pair of goals and assisted on another to help pace the Iroquois Falls attack in the triumph.

Bruce gave the home side the lead with the lone tally of the opening period.

Building on that, the Eskis tacked on two more before the middle stanza was five minutes old to go up 3-0 on markers by Jacob Erwin and Bruce.

Rayside-Balfour countered that with two of the own later in the session to pull within one on man advantage efforts supplied by Joel Lemay and Bradley Chenier.

The power play allowed Iroquois Falls to take a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes when Garry Mindus notched his first of the season at 17:25.

Ryan Mooney’s third of the campaign brought the Canadians closer midway through the third, but the Eskis would tack on tallies late by Tanner Bowditch and then another by Erwin, which was put into an empty net, as Iroquois Falls skated away with the decision.

Brett Ouderkirk had two assists for Eskis on the night.

Josh Horner stood tall in the Iroquois Falls net facing 49 shots in registering the win for the Eskis.

Jessie Morin saw 27 attempts fired his way in a losing cause.
