After a brief on-ice courtship, Jacob Smith said ‘yes.’
The Soo Thunderbirds forward said ‘yes’ to a verbal commitment offer from the NCAA Division I Lake Superior State Lakers men’s hockey program.
“Committing to Lake Superior State feels good,” Smith said on Monday afternoon. “I went for a visit not too long ago and had a couple of phone calls and made (my decision) official.”
“He was on their radar last year,” Thunderbirds GM Jamie Henderson added. “When you lead the Soo Thunderbirds in scoring as a rookie you are putting yourself on the radar and that is what he did.”
The Sault teen scored 29 goals and added 37 helpers in 58 regular-season games last season. He was selected to the NOJHL’s 1st all-rookie team on March 20.
The offer is a verbal commitment only. The overture by the Sault, Mich. based school is not binding and can be rescinded at any time.
