Low-scoring affair sees Timmins slip past Elliot Lake 1-0

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Riley Brosseau goal with 6:34 remaining in regulation proved to be the only one of the night as the Timmins Rock edged the Elliot Lake Wildcats 1-0 Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena.

It was goaltender’s battle throughout with Tyler Masternak of Timmins and Justin Vertesi from Elliot Lake standing tall as they kept it scoreless through two periods of play.

The Rock would eventually break the deadlock in the back half of the third as Brosseau put in the only one to find the back of the net as he finished off the assists from Josh Dickson and Will Caston.

Masternak finished with 18 saves to post his league-leading third shutout of the season.

Vertesi was solid in the narrow defeat for the Wildcats making 38 stops for his side.

With the outcome, Timmins has now won five consecutive contests as they improved to 9-4-1-0 overall while Elliot Lake slipped to 5-9-0-2 with the narrow setback.
