SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today that French River Rapids forward Gregory Trudeau-Paquet; Powassan Voodoos defenceman Dayton Murray and Blind River Beavers goaltender Garret Boyonoski have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Sept. 17.
GREGORY TRUDEAU-PAQUET, (F) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – Trudeau-Paquet has played a key role in French River’s impressive start to the 2017-18 campaign.
In three games last week the 18-year-old Sudbury product etched his name on the score sheet in each of them helping his side secure five of a possible six points.
Trudeau-Paquet began by scoring once and helping set-up two more as French River fell 5-4 in overtime at Powassan last Monday.
He then assisted on all three goals his club scored in a 3-2 triumph over visiting Rayside-Balfour Friday before capping off his run with a tally in a 3-0 decision over Espanola Saturday.
Entering league play this week, Trudeau-Paquet sits tied for second in NOJHL scoring with eight points, including a trio of tallies.
DAYTON MURRAY, (D) POWASSAN VOODOOS – The NOJHL’s leading scorer amassed seven of his current league-leading 11 points in four outings for the defending champion Voodoos last week.
Murray scored twice, including the game-winner in OT, as Powassan powered past French River on Sept. 11.
He then notched his second-career NOJHL hat trick in a Voodoos road win at the Soo Eagles Friday.
The 20-year-old blueliner, who hails from Spruce Grove, Alta., followed that up by doling out a pair of assists Saturday as his club defeated the Soo Thunderbirds.
Despite being held pointless in a setback at Blind River Sunday, Murray still paces all NOJHL skaters in goals, power play markers and points with six, four and 11 respectively.
GARRET BOYONOSKI, (G) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – Backed in part by the solid goaltending of Boyonoski, the Beavers are 4-0 to begin a season for the first time in franchise history.
The 17-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., registered two of his three victories on the year, over the weekend, to keep the Beavers unbeaten.
Boyonoski started off by returning home and turning in a 32-save effort Saturday as Blind River won in extra time at the Thunderbirds.
Then Sunday he made another 28 stops as the Beavers handed the Voodoos their first defeat of the campaign while making Blind River the lone team in the NOJHL who have yet to suffer defeat so far this season.
Along with his 3-0 record to date, Boyonoski also sports a 1.97 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage.
