SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Gage Stephney of the Soo Thunderbirds along with goaltenders Dawson Rodin of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Marshall Frappier of the French River Rapids have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Dec. 2.
GAGE STEPHNEY, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Continue to impress offensively for the league-leading Thunderbirds, Stephney solid play has seen him score once in each of his past six games, all part of Sault Ste. Marie’s current winning streak that sits at eight in succession.
Last week saw the 19-year-old amass eight points in three outings for his hometown team beginning with a goal and two assists in a decision over Blind River.
Stephney then tallied twice, including the game-winner, and helped set-up another marker in a win at Elliot Lake before capping off his run with a goal and two assists in a road victory at Espanola.
In his six-game goal and point streak the Thunderbirds forward has scored seven times and as doled out as many helpers.
DAWSON RODIN, (G) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Stepping in twice for the Gold Miners last week, Rodin was all but perfect allowing only one goal against to help back stop Kirkland Lake to triumphs over both Timmins and Powassan.
The 20-year-old Chilliwack, B.C., native began with a spotless 23-save performance in relief as the Gold Miners came back to clip the Rock on Thursday.
Earning another start Saturday, Rodin was solid once again as he turned aside 34 of the 34 attempts he faced in a home victory over the Voodoos.
In all he boasted a 0.66 goals-against average and an impressive .982 save mark in the time frame.
Entering play this week Rodin sits seventh among NOJHL netminders with a 2.84 average while sharing the same spot in save percentage at .920.
MARSHALL FRAPPIER, (G) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – In two starts for French River last week, the 18-year-old from Nepean, Ont., came away victorious in both of them helping the Rapids continue their improved play this season.
Friday saw Frappier turn aside all 33 shots he faced to register his first NOJHL shutout in a 3-0 victory over Powassan that saw French River record their first-ever win vs. the Voodoos.
He then made another 28 stops Sunday as French River doubled up visiting Cochrane.
In his past dozen appearances, Frappier sports a 8-3-0-0 record.
