NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltender Charlie Burns (Blind River Beavers); forward Silas Crawford (Elliot Lake Red Wings) and netminder Marcue Ouellet (Cochrane Crunch) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 9.

CHARLIE BURNS, (G) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – In back-to-back starts at the NOJHL Showcase last week, the 16-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product posted shutouts in both of them, helping league-leading Blind River maintain their winning ways.

With victories over Kirkland Lake and French River, Burns now shares top spot in triumphs among rookie netminders with four and sits second in both goals-against average (1.80) and third in save percentage (.932), in those statistical categories, featuring first-year stoppers.

His two shutouts also currently lead the entire NOJHL in that department.

SILAS CRAWFORD, (F) ELLIOT LAKE RED WINGS – Hailing from Hamilton, Ont., the 18-year-old Crawford produced five points during the time frame to help Elliot Lake skate to a trio of triumphs.

Beginning with his initial NOJHL hat trick Tuesday, which included the game-winning goal, his efforts led the Red Wings to a decision over Cochrane.

Setting up another tally in a win versus Kirkland Lake, then tacking on a marker in a decision over French River, Crawford is playing at a point-per-game clip for Elliot Lake as his 11 points, in as many outings, leads his club offensively.

MARCUS OUELLET, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – Standing tall in his lone start last week, during the NOJHL Showcase event in Sudbury, Ouellet was stellar in a shootout win over Espanola.

In 65 minutes of action, the 18-year-old from Toronto made 60 saves, which is the most of any NOJHL goalkeeper, so far this season. He also handled each attempt he faced in extra shots, in securing the victory for the Crunch.

Ouellet’s .945 save mark leads all league rookie netminders and also places him second-best among all NOJHL goaltenders.
