NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Tucker Shields (Powassan Voodoos); goaltender Jake Marois (Espanola Paper Kings) and forward Oliver Smith (Greater Sudbury Cubs) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 30.

TUCKER SHIELDS, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Appearing in three of the four Powassan victories last week, Shields played a pivotal part in a trio of those triumphs.

Beginning a road trip Friday in Cochrane, the 19-year-old from Gloucester, Ont., helped set-up the difference maker, then potted the game-winner in an overtime decision at Hearst, before capping off his run by tallying twice, including notching a second-straight decider, as the Voodoos won in Timmins Sunday afternoon.

With points in each of his past four outings, Shields now has 15 in his initial 18 league outings on eight markers and seven helpers. Also, his four game-winners to date see him tied for the NOJHL lead in that department.

JAKE MAROIS, (G) ESPANOLA PAPER KINGS – Making his first two starts of the season over the weekend, Marois won both of them, backstopping the Paper Kings to a pair of road victories.

In a 4-2 triumph in Hearst Friday, the 19-year-old Sudbury product was credited with 45 saves, including many of the impressive variety, to keep his club in it prior to team rallying late to pull out the decision.

After another win in Cochrane Saturday, Marois wrapped up his weekly run with a 2.00 goals-against, along with a quality save percentage of .950.

OLIVER SMITH (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – In each of Greater Sudbury’s victories during the during frame, the 19-year-old from Lively, Ont., provided multi-point efforts helping the league-leading Cubs wrap-up October with a 9-0-1-0 record for the month.

Starting with an assist and the game-winner in overtime versus Timmins Thursday, Smith added another goal and a helper Saturday as Great Sudbury swamped French River.

Playing at over a point-per-game pace so far this season, the skilled forward has 18 in 15 contests to date. The Cubs are also a perfect 11-0-0-0 in match-ups in which he has collected at least one point, so far on the campaign.
